Cocoa Purchasing Clerk threatens suicide after losing over GHS60,000, 20 bags of cocoa and properties to fire at Assin Dosii

Kwame Gyakye, a cocoa purchasing clerk at Assin Dosii in the Assin South District of the Central Region attempted to commit suicide following an inferno that engulfed his cocoa shed.

Money amounts to ¢60,000, 20 bags of cocoa beans worth over 16,000 cedis and other properties have been consumed by fire.

The victim and some of the good samaritans who attempted to quench the fire also suffered severe injuries in the process.

Speaking in an interview with Rich Fm Reporter Aduanaba Kofi Essien, he noted that he went for the money from the Federated Commodities Limited (FEDCO LTD), a leading indigenous Licensed Cocoa Buying Company, a company he worked with and immediately he placed the money in the shed he heard a strange sound followed by a heavy fire, but all efforts to extinguish it with water and sand proved futile.

When he noticed all hope to save the properties is lost he threw himself into the fire to be consumed by it but the timely intervention of the firefighters saved him from dying.

Meanwhile, Abusuapanin Nana Darkoh who is also a caretaker chief of Assin Dosii said all attempts to get the attention of the fire service from Abura Dunkwa did not materialize.

He revealed that the purchasing clerk has been contributing positively to the development of farmers in the area.

He however appealed to authorities to establish a fire service station in Assin South in order to contain such occurrences in the future.
