VIDEO: Police Officers beat two on motorbike with riffle “butt” for not wearing helmets

THE POLICE INCARCERATED THEM UNLAWFULLY FOR FOUR DAYS AND DEMAND GHC4000 COMPENSATION FROM THE VICTIMS FOR STRUGGLING WITH POLICE OFFICERS.

Two drivers from Asankrangwa who were on motorbike to Manso Amenfi in the Amenfi Central District have been been battling for their health after three policemen subjected them to severe brutalities and incarcerated them for four days without bail.

Having failed to ‘do the normal’ to get through the barrier at Pensanom last Saturday 4th March, 2023, the three policemen decided to show them where power lies.

This reporter gathers that one of the victims whose car had developed a mechanical fault at Manso Amenfi had sought the services of the other driver who was on motorbike to drop him off to attend to his faulty vehicle. One of the three ‘fighting policemen ‘, was incensed at the motor rider receiving a mobile call before them.

This unclear picture was taking in a moving car at Pensanom Barrier.

A scuffle then ensued between the policemen and the victims during which the men in uniform succeeded in brutalizing the drivers and subsequently putting them behind bars for four days without bail. The victims were subsequently charged for being on the motorbike without helmet and struggling with police officers, among others. Their explanations were not taken and had to spend four days behind bars at the Manso Amenfi Police Station.

Interestingly, the driving Victims had to pay Ghc4000 to cover the medical cost of the three policemen, one of which had his finger bitten accidentally by one of the brutalized victims in self defense before they could be granted bail.

Ironically, the victims have had to bear their on pain and medical bills. When contacted, the Manso Amenfi District Police Commander would not speak to the issue.

Incidences of police brutality on suspected victims are increasingly alarming in the both Amenfi West and Central parts of the Western Region. Recently, two MTTD Officers at Asankrangwa who subjected a suspect to severe and inhumane brutalities were interdicted by the Police Administration, an act the IGP saw as affront to human rights and police professional standards.

Relatives and victims in this latest Manso Amenfi Police Brutality are appealing to government through the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Akufo Dampare to intervene for them to get justice.
