Sim card re- registration: PWDs call on Gov’t and telcos for house to house service for its membership
The Eastern Regional branch of the Persons With Disabilities, PWDs are calling for alternative for the ongoing SIM card re-registration exercise for its members.
The regional Chairman for the Association of Physically Challenged Mr. Samuel Sampson Boateng says it has received distress complaints from its members who lament the ill-treatment they endure at some registration centers, posing them to life threatening situations.
The regional chairman spoke to Afeema FM’s Journalist, Kaakyire Kwasi Afari on Sunday when the Telecommunications Network in Koforidua organizes mass Sim Card’s re-registeration exercise for the PWDs in New Juaben North and south municipalities.
Mr. Samuel Sampson Boateng bemoaned how his association members receives little attention or recognition when the country embarks on a nationwide exercise that requires their involvement.

“It’s sad to note that, our members receives no recognition during a national assignment, our members struggled during the voters ID registration exercise, we faced a total discrimination. Meanwhile, no government would get 50 plus one vote if we decide not to vote during elections” he told Kaakyire Kwasi Afari.
Some of the executives also lamented that the current happenings at the registration centers poses a great disadvantage and serious damages.
The eastern regional women’s ring leader of the Ghana Society for the physically handicapped, Madam Eunice Owusu Anderson revealed that linking to the Ghana Card with the Sim Cards before the biometric registration was a challenge for some of the members due to illiteracy and ignorant.
She made an appeal to the government and the telcos to provide house-to-house service to give persons with disabilities (PWDs) the special treatment.
Mr. Daniel Agyekum, who is the Ghana Federation of Disability organization’s Eastern Regional chairman expressed his heartfelt gratitude to their leaders in Accra and the Telcos but calls for extension of the mass registration exercise to reach other district within the Region.
