Free SHS Policy has collapsed our businesses- Institution Suppliers cry
The National Association Of Institutional Suppliers has stated that, the implementation of Free SHS policy by NPP government has negatively affected their businesses which is compelling them to lay off their employees.
The association was supplying school uniforms, outing dresses, church clothes and food items to Senior High Schools across the country in larger quantities before the introduction of free SHS policy.
But according to the National President for the Association Mr Stephen Oware, their individual roles in supplying the above stated items to the schools did not change much under the Free SHS programme, but their direct dealings with Heads of Senior High Schools especially in the price negotiation and payment of the items they supplied to schools curtailed.
Mr Oware Stephen said this at the maiden annual general meeting of the association in Kumasi which under the theme “The Role Of suppliers in the implementation of the free Senior High School Policy”
He said under the policy, the central government has taken over the price negotiation and subsequently makes payment upon submission of invoices and store receipt vouchers to the ministry of education.
He said, initially the association accepted the process but has now observed some challenges that are seriously affecting the running of the programme and threaten the survival of their businesses and the livelihoods of the several families that depends on the business for employment.
Call the executives of the association for details.
