Residents lament over lack of development
According to the peeved residents in an interview with the press today, in the year 2020, their community produced 696,000,000 US dollars to the Ghana government through the exploration of Oil and Gas.
With this hooping amount of money to the government, the people in Nzema of the Western Region say, they’ve not benefited from it.
They sadly revealed in the interview that, their roads are poor, despite the huge sum of money the government earned from their land.
The pointed out that, road network leading to the Jomoro Municipal Capital, Half Assini Road, is in dire need of construction support.
Speaking on behalf of the aggrieved residents, Robert Morkeh, who is the leader of Concerned Youth of Nzema said, the youth in the community are hard-working Ghanaians but are not benefiting from the work of the numerous companies in the area.
Mr. Morkeh added that, through the support of GNPC, Ghana Gas and one other Oil company on their land, Government must construct a standard referral health center for them to avert any future deadly disease breakout as a result of the chemical processing.
He, on behalf of the people have encouraged government to be hard on the galamsey fight especially in the Western Region as the dwellers are really suffering.
Finally, they appealed to the Government to come for negotiation over a 20,000 acres of land that the government wants for the construction of a petroleum hub in the are for transparency to prevail.
