KMA, Napo present 3,000 LED light bulbs to assembly members in the Metropolis to curb insecurity

The Municipal Chief Executive of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly on behalf of the Assembly in support of the Energy Minister, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, have presented light-emitting diodes (LEDs) street light bulbs to all the Forty (40) electoral areas within KMA.

In all, Three Thousand (3,000) 150W LED street light bulbs are to be distributed to the assembly members in the assembly to help curb insecurity due to darkness.

Various satelite markets in the assembly such as race course, Nana Afia Kobi, Bantama market, Golden Tulip stretch and many more would all benefit from the 3,000 LED bulbs presented on Wednesday, December 8,2021.

The donation was in response to a request by the assembly members in the assembly to assist them in providing enough light bulbs to fix all the ineffective streetlight bulbs in order enhance proper security in their various electoral areas by curtailing heinous acts.

The items were received by Hon. Steven Ofori, the presiding member of KMA.

The Kumasi Mayor, Hon. Samuel Pyne, presenting the items said, inaccordance with the Government’s policy decision to encouraging the efficient use of energy in the view of the increasing electricity costs and to ensure security, the assembly had embarked on a nation-wide Energy Conservation to ensure that, every individual in the assembly feels secured especially at night.

“The Government of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo has decided to provide safety to all, and providing street light bulbs form part of the intervention to combating crimes”, Mayor stressed.

He noted that, some of the LED light bulbs would be released to all the assembly members within the 40 electoral areas and the assembly as part of it’s efforts will supply and fix the bulbs free of charge.

He later advised the members to practice maintenance culture to prolong the lifespan of the items.

“In this regard, you may engage certified electrical maintenance technicians to regularly check and maintain the street lights and other accessories”.

On his part, the Presiding Member for KMA who doubles as the assembly member for Amakom, Hon Steven Ofori expressed gratitude to the Mayor and the Energy Minister for the items.
