A/R: Tanker drivers declare sit down strike
Fuel tanker drivers operating from the Kumasi Depot at Kaase in the Asokwa Municipality of the Ashanti region have declared a sit-down strike over a faulty upholding gauge tank at the depot which they say BOST has refused to fix.
Some of the aggrieved drivers who refused to load fuel today told Silver FM’s Akwadaa Nyame on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, that the malfunctioning gauge which does not give accurate figures creates a shortage at the delivery point which goes against them.
They said their tanker owners sometimes fail to pay them for over a year because of the shortage created by the faulted gauge indicating that the issue has been reported to the management of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation severally but to no avail.
In addition, they said owners of the tankers have turned a deaf ears to their concerns and are not willing to rectifying the problem or removing the malfunctioning upholding gauge tank.
They are therefore calling on the BOST management to a matter of urgency fix or remove the upholding gauge which does not give accurate figures else they will not work.
“We’re not going to work until management eliminate the gauge or solve the problem”, they added.
Meanwhile, management of BOST and Fuel Tanker Drivers Association are expected to have a meeting tomorrow over the strike action in Kumasi.
