C/R: Lack Of Facilities, Desks Compel Pupils To Study In Unhealthy Environment
As a school’s physical environment also can play a major role in academic performance, the teachers and pupils of Egyankwaa Owuya D/A Basic School in the Ekumfi District of the Central region have expressed a greater sweat over a situation they delineate as a punishment by the government.
A courtesy visit by AfricaNewsArenaGh news team revealed that an unsafe environment has affected students’ health and academic performance at Egyankwaa Owuya D/A Basic school which had been deprived of basic facilities such as portable water, toilet facility, inadequate classroom blocks among others has entangled the school over the years when a heavy downpour ripped off the roofs of the classroom block.
Addressing the AfricaNewsArenaGh News team, the teachers confirmed to Odiasempa Nanaa Savvy that, “proposals and letters have been addressed to authorities who are in the best positions but all attempts made proved futile”.
The pupils also disclosed that whether it rains or shines, they know how difficult it is to be in the school as much concentration is lost in the course of studying and they have no option to embrace the act than to drop out from school and support their parents in other related activities.
“If we will come to school and face these challenges, then, it’s better for us to stay elsewhere and engross ourselves in other activities in the community. We understand why most of our colleagues are not willing to come to school”, some of the pupils lamented.
They are therefore calling on the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, District Chief Executive, Ebenezer Monney, Member of Parliament, Abeiku Crentsil, philanthropists and other corporate bodies to as a matter of urgency come to their aid and address the challenges as the majority of the pupils are massively dropping out from the school.
